Bio: A member of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, Goalkeeper David Mahoney joins the Seattle side on loan for the 2006 season. Mahoney was an instrument part of the Fire’s return to the MLS Cup Playoffs starting three games at the end of the 2005 season when both starting keepers were injured. Mahoney posted a shutout in his first MLS career victory over the Kansas City Wizards.
Mahoney played 36 collegiate games between Brown and Cornell universities. In his freshman year at Brown, Mahoney helped the Bears win the Ivy League regular season title in 2001. Transferring to Cornell his junior year, Mahoney inherited the starting job and recorded four shutouts and a 1.54 GAA to earn All-Ivy League honorable mention.
Loaned to USL Second Division club Western Massachusetts for a handful of games towards the end of the 2005 season, Mahoney helped the Pioneers reach the quarterfinals. Mahoney was unable to play in the second leg of the quarterfinal series due to a red card ejection in the first game.
At Noble and Greenough School, Mahoney earned several honors his senior high school season; including Independent School League (ISL) Defensive Player of the Year and was a selected to the All-ISL, All-Massachusetts and All-New England teams.
