Bio: Ready to play in his first full season with the Sounders since 2002, Midfielder Leighton O'Brien anchors the Sounders midfield in 2006. Playing part of the 2005 season with Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake, O'Brien returned to the Seattle in July, helping the Sounders make their championship run in 2005. O'Brien played nearly 1600 minutes, scored three goals and had fours assists during the ’05 campaign.

The Tacoma, Wash. native was drafted by MLS's New England Revolution in 1999 and played parts of the next two seasons with the San Jose Earthquakes. 2001 was O'Brien's first season with the Seattle-side and led the team in scoring with 11 goals and 7 assists; and was voted the team's MVP. In 2002, O'Brien was selected as the A-League MVP helping the Sounders capture the 2002 Regular Season Title.

During the 2003 and 2004 seasons, O'Brien played overseas for the Swedish Second Division Club, Boden.

A graduate of Federal Way High School, O'Brien played collegiate soccer for the University of San Diego. O'Brien youth career also includes being a member of the U-23 U.S. National team.
