Bio: University of California Santa Barbara defensive Midfielder Nate Boyden enters his first professional season with the Sounders. As a co-captain last season, Boyden led the UCSB Gauchos to a 13-5-3 record, and second round NCAA tournament birth. Boyden scored five goals and tallied five assists in his UCSB career.

The 6-1 midfielder was a two-time All Big West Conference selection for the Gauchos his junior and senior seasons. In 2004, Boyden led UCSB to the nation’s third best team goals against average 0.53, and scored one goal and added four assists. Spending a majority of his collegiate career marking opposing team’s leading scorers, Boyden was chosen for the All-Big West First-Team his senior year. Boyden graduated from UCSB in mid-March, just before training camp; majoring in psychology.

Attending Davis High School, the Davis, Calif. native was a two-time All Delta / Capital Athletic League and All-San Joaquin Section First-Team selection. In his prep career, Boyden led his team to two consecutive undefeated seasons, three consecutive sectional titles and an overall record of 80-2-1.
