Bio: After a successful rookie season, goalkeeper Chris Eylander will hope to continue where he left off in 2007. As the Sounders’ 2006 USL First Division College Draft pick, Eylander started strong and earned the starting position.
Now in his second season, the Auburn, WA., native will prove that he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the state’s history.
During his collegiate career at the University of Washington, Eylander clocked 4,472 minutes on the pitch in 49 regular season games. He finished his career among the best in several categories at the UW. He is fourth all-time in saves with 187, his 1.11 goals against average is fifth best, and he also recorded the third most shutouts in Husky history, with 18.
Eylander had a breakout season his junior year. Serving as co-captain, Eylander started all 20 games and was a First Team All-Pac-10 and Pac-10 All Academic Team selection. Leading the Pac-10 in saves (79), he was also among leaders in saves per game (3.95), shutouts (10) and save percentage (.798).
At Auburn Riverside High School, Eylander was chosen as the State of Washington Gatorade Player of the Year in 2002; was selected as the team MVP in both his junior and senior seasons; was named to the Tacoma News Tribune First Team and was the 2002 Male Athlete of the Year for Auburn Riverside H.S.
