SOUNDERS MEN AND WOMEN TO HAVE CO-ED BENEFIT MATCH ON JUNE 17
Posted 5/10/2007

The Seattle Sounders announced today they will play the first ever public co-ed match featuring players of the Sounders men and Women’s teams playing against each other at Issaquah High School, 4pm June 17.

The match will be a benefit to raise funds for Marin Morrison, a record setting high school swimmer from Atlanta who has been paralyzed on the right side of her body by a brain tumor wrapped around her temporal lobe.

Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for children and all proceeds will go to benefit the Morrison family. Tickets for the event can be purchased at Issaquah High School on June 17. Gates will open at 3pm. For more information call the Seattle Sounders at 206.622.3415.

“This young lady’s story is very inspirational,” said Adrian Hanauer, owner of the Seattle Sounders. “We’re honored to do whatever we can to share it with as many people as possible.”

Morrison recently swam the 100 meter butterfly, the most difficult competitive swim stroke, at an Eastlake High School swim meet. Despite only being able to use one arm and one leg, Morrison completed the race.

Fueled by sheer will power and a fierce desire to never stop competing, even against a tumor that has all ready taken so much from her, Morrison inspired the cheering fans at the event, the community and millions who have heard the story through local and national news coverage.

Morrison has continued to swim and practice daily after the high school season has ended. Although she continues to battle cancer, she has also started competing again for USA swimming in the para-athelete division. Her true strength continues to shine through. Within the past month she has set two American Records and is competing for a spot on the para-olympic team that would ultimately take her to China for the 2008 Olympics.

Please join the Sounders, our friends, family and fans as we celebrate the inspiration, desire and passion that Morrison has shown and help us to do what little we can to give back to her and her family.
