SOUNDERS DEFEAT ALL NATIONS CUP SQUAD IN BENEFIT
Posted 6/21/2007

Craig Tomlinson’s hat trick led the Seattle Sounders to a 6-0 victory over the squad representing Russia in the All Nations Cup, a local tournament that allows recreational soccer players to represent their countries of origin and compete in a World Cup style tournament.

The match was the second Sounders benefit match in the last week, with all proceeds going to Sister Communities, the non-profit organization that organizes the All Nations Cup.

Kenji Treschuk, Santa Maria Rivera and Greg Howes all added goals for the Sounders and Ben Dragavon produced a clean sheet behind a backline that included Andre Schmid, Nate Boyden, Adam West and Matt Fischer.

Approximately 800 fans showed up for the event with the vast majority of the crowd supporting the Russia squad. In All Nations Cup style, the crowd cheered voraciously at every glimpse of talent or near miss by the team representing their roots.

Soccer fans can expect more of the same when the All Nations Cup kicks off on July 13. The tournament runs through July 29th and includes a variety of events in addition to soccer matches to celebrate the diversity of the participants. More information can be found at www.allnationscup.org.

Next up for the Sounders is a regular season match against the Montreal Impact, Saturday night at Qwest Field. Kick-off is at 7 PM and tickets are still available.
