The Seattle Sounders will play their third home match in six days against Miami FC at 7pm Thursday night at Qwest Field.
The Sounders are recovering from a physical 2-1 victory against their arch-rivals, the Portland Timbers on Tuesday night in second round U.S. Open Cup action.
Seattle Head Coach Brian Schmetzer will be forced to test the depth of his bench as he’ll most likely be without the services of midfielder Leighton O’Brien, who suffered a concussion in Tuesday’s match, and Kenji Treschuk, who suffered a knock in Tuesday’s match as well as target forward Nathan Knox who is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
Sounders captain Danny Jackson wil miss another match as he continues his green card application process in England. If all goes well, he should head back to Seattle in the middle of next week.
The match in Seattle is the first of a five match road trip to the Northwest for Miami FC. The South Florida club has earned 14 points from 14 matches and is winless in their last four games played with two losses and two draws.
Seattle and Miami played April 27th in Miami in a match that ended in disappointment for the Sounders as they saw a 2-1 second half lead dissolve and lost the match by a score of 3-2.
The Sounders have taken strides to improve on their slow start to the season and now sit in fourth place in the USL First Division table, just six points behind the first place Vancouver Whitecaps. Miami FC are looking to begin a mid season climb up the table and become a solid playoff contender.
After Thursday’s match, the Sounders embark on a difficult July schedule that sees them in four league matches against Vancouver and Rochester exclusively. Their difficult July will also include a third round U.S. Open Cup Match against Chivas USA at Qwest Field. More information will be announced later this week about dates and ticket availability for that match. The Sounders also face Preston North End from the English Coca-Cola Championship at Qwest Field on July 23rd. Tickets are available for that match through SeattleSounders.net.
