Seattle Sounders goal keeper Chris Eylander was selected to the USL First Division Team of the Week for the second time in 2007 as recognition for his performance in the Sounders 1-0 win in Rochester.
The shutout was Eylander’s sixth on the season, which rates third amongst First Division keepers. His 65 saves on the season place him second overall in the league behind Rochester keeper Harrison Chase, who has played in two more matches than Eylander.
Seattle’s defense and Eylander’s play has been the key to their recent success. All seven of the Sounders wins in 2007 have been decided by a single goal.
Eylander has not allowed a goal since the 71st minute of the June 23 match against the Montreal Impact. The streak covers two regular season matches and 199 regulation minutes.
He’ll look to continue his streak on Thursday night when the Vancouver Whitecaps come to Qwest Field. Kick-off is at 7pm.
