Sounders Pull Out Magical Win Over Atlanta To Help Playoff Chances

The Seattle Sounders notched their biggest win of the season Saturday night at Qwest Field to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Sounder’s got goals from Maykel Galindo and Andrew Gregor to overtake the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-1 in a must win game. When all hope seemed lost Gregor’s goal came off a penalty in the 90th minute. The win could help the Sounders into the playoffs if Seattle gets the needed help from around the league.
Sounders Lose Early Lead, Fall 3-2 To Vancouver

(Burnaby, B.C.) - - In a critical match for both clubs, the Sounders fell to Vancouver 3-2 at Swangard Stadium on Friday night in classic Seattle vs. Vancouver fashion, physical. Jamal Sutton scored two goals to keep the Sounders competitive, but a flat Seattle side couldn’t handle the pressure from the Whitecaps offense who scored three unanswered goals. The Sounders missed their three leading goal scorers who were serving league suspensions for yellow card accumulations.
Sounders Fall To Battery 2-1 In 89th Minute, End Winning Streak

The Charleston Battery broke the Seattle Sounders three game winning streak with a game winner in the 89th minute for a 2-1 decision at Qwest Field on Friday night. The Battery jumped on the board in the 54th minute on a goal from Ben Hollingsworth. The Sounders notched the equalizer in the 76th on Maykel Galindo’s third goal of the season. The loss snapped a 297 minute shutout streak.
Sounders Shutout Minnesota 1-0, Win Third Straight

The Seattle Sounders battled the visiting Minnesota Thunder to a 1-0 victory at Qwest Field Friday night. The Sounders dominated the first half of play and took a one goal lead on an Andrew Gregor free kick in the 9th minute. The Sounders fought off several attacks by the Thunder in the second half but held on to their 1-0 lead for their third straight victory and ended Minnesota’s four game winning streak. The win moves the Sounders into fifth place in the USL First Division.
SOUNDERS SHUT OUT WHITECAPS 2-0, WIN CASCADIA CUP

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders defeated the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 at Qwest Field, their second consecutive win as they make their push for the post season. Sounder Midfielder Leighton O’Brien recorded a goal and an assist in the contest as Goalkeeper Chris Eylander completed his fifth shutout of the season. The win over Vancouver puts the Sounders back into the playoff mix and secured the Northwest’s Cascadia Cup.
Weaver Nets a Hat Trick as Sounders Crush Virginia Beach 5 - 1

The Seattle Sounders defeated the Virginia Beach Mariners 5-1 Friday night at the Starfire Sports Complex. Cam Weaver scored three first half goals to secure the Sounder’s rookie scoring record, while Maykel Galindo and Roger Levesque each added one goal to the bottom line. Cam Weaver is now three goals away from setting the Sounder’s all-time goal mark for one season.

(Montreal, Quebec) - - The Seattle Sounders faced the league leading Montreal Impact in their first of three road matches this week. On an early goal by Forward Mauricio Salles, the Impact defeated the Sounders 1-0 at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex. Montreal held on to their one goal lead despite several chances by the Sounders late in the match. The loss is on the second for the Sounders in their last eight matches, both coming at the hand of the Impact. The Sounders now move on to play the Rochester Raging Rhinos on Friday, July 28th.
Sounders Move Up In Standings With 3-1 Win Over Portland

The Seattle Sounders made it back-to-back victories over their arch-rivals the Portland Timbers with a 3-1 victory Saturday night at Qwest Field. It was a hot and humid evening but the Sounders got on track early with a Cam Weaver goal in the 10th minute. Sounder Forwards Roger Levesque and Maykel Galindo scored their first goals of the night sealed the victory in the 59th minute. The Timbers only goal was the result of a penalty kick.
