(Seattle, Wash.) - - United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced Wednesday significant changes that affect the Seattle Sounders in the 2005 season, including the renaming of the A-League and the substitution of a two-conference system for a single table format.
The two tiers of USL’s professional division will be officially referred to as the USL First Division and USL Second Division, eliminating the A-League name adopted by the then independent American Professional Soccer League in 1995.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The United Soccer Leagues announced Friday changes for the W-League 2005 season, most notably the addition of six new teams. The Seattle Sounders Women see little change in the Western Conference as the W-League continues to use overtime in regular season matches.
The W-League alignment for 2005 will again consist of three conferences. Both the Eastern and Central Conferences now consist of a two-division format and a single table conference for the Sounders Women in the West.

(MONTREAL, Que.) – the Seattle Sounders quest for a league title fell one victory short as they dropped a, 2-0, decision to the Montreal Impact in the A-League Championship game Saturday at Claude Robillard Sports Complex. It was the first A-League championship for the Impact since 1994. Seattle last won the league title in 1996, their last trip to the Finals before this season.
The Sounders played Montreal even through much of the first half. The letdown came in the 33rd minute. Impact defender Maurico Vincello was allowed to run with the ball through the middle of the field and get off a left-footed blast from 18 yards out. The ball curled inside the left post past the outstretched arms of the Sounders diving goalkeeper, Preston Burpo.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders will be forced to play the A-League Championship match without the team’s leading scorer Welton Melo. After reviewing an appeal by Sounder’s management, the A-League announced today that it is upholding the one-game suspension for Welton’s ejection on Sunday, September 12th in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals in Vancouver.
Welton, a Brazilian native, received his second yellow card of the match in the 72nd minute in a confusing scenario during a substitution in which the head official, Tiger Liu determined Welton was “delaying” the restart of the match.
“There is an injustice being levied on a young man whose language skills and legitimate confusion were construed as delay,” said Sounders General Manager Adrian Hanauer.
