(Seattle, Wash.) – In a pulsating match Wednesday night at Qwest Field, the Seattle Sounders beat the Vancouver Whitecaps in dramatic fashion on a Chad Brown golden goal in the final minute of the second overtime. Seattle took a 1-0 lead into second-half stoppage time when Vancouver scored an improbable equalizer through an Oliver Heald penalty kick. The resulting double overtime session was a filled with several excellent scoring chances, highlighted by Brown’s first-ever professional goal.
The first half was played at a good pace as both teams came out aggressively. Seattle had most of the run of play and broke through the Vancouver defense several times but was unable to truly test Whitecaps goalkeeper Alexandre Marques.
The Sounders’ first quality scoring chance came in the 11th minute when forward Welton Melo received the ball deep down the left side and crossed to the far post where strike partner Roger Levesque blazed his first time shot high and wide.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders (11-10-4, 37pts) face two critical matches this week with their playoff hopes teetering on every point earned in the remaining three games of the regular season. On August 18th the Sounders face the Vancouver Whitecaps for the final time this season. Over the weekend the Sounders face the expansion Puerto Rico Islanders who feature Major League Soccer’s second all-time leading scorer.
After a 1-0 shutout of the Vancouver Whitecaps (12-8-5, 41pts) on Sunday, August 15 the Sounders gained critical ground in the Western Conference playoff race.

(BURNABY, B.C.) - The Seattle Sounders (11-10-4) scored early in the second half and held on to defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps (17-8-5) in A League action Sunday at Swangard Stadium. Sounders forward Welton scored his ninth goal of the year to hand the visiting side their 11th win of the 2004 season.
A rather insipid first half saw neither team develop many scoring chances. The Whitecaps Carlos Corrazin drove a ball deep into the Sounders 18-yard box in the 3rd minute. His crossing attempt was met by the left foot of Zach Scott, who cleared the ball out of danger.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - Riding a two-game winning streak, the Seattle Sounders (10-10-4, 34pts) head north on Sunday, August 15th to battle I-5 rival, the Vancouver Whitecaps (12-7-4, 40pts). With the possible return of team captain Jason Farrell, the Sounders face another match with playoff implications.
The oldest rivalry in the Western Conference, the Sounders and the Whitecaps square off for the third of four matches this season. The Sounders are 0-1-1 against Vancouver this season – a 1-0 loss in Vancouver on July 9th and a 0-0 draw in Seattle on July 10th.

(Seattle,Wash.) – The Seattle Sounders shut out the Minnesota Thunder 2-0 Saturday night at Qwest Field to secure three very important points in the A-League Western Conference standings. The win marked the first time the Sounders beat the Thunder this season and gave Seattle added hope for making the playoffs.
The Sounders needed to come out strong and got off to a dream start when they scored after just five minutes gone in the game. Ben Somoza laced a perfect corner kick to a leaping Jonathan Bolanos, who powered a header just under the crossbar for his second goal of the season and a 1-0 Sounders lead.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders (9-10-4, 31pts) face the Minnesota Thunder (currently 10-6-3, 33pts) on Saturday, August 7th at 7pm. With a win, the Sounders would gain crucial ground on the Thunder, who currently sits in 3rd place in the Western Conference with four games in hand. The Sounders occupy fourth place in the conference – the top four teams advance to post season play.
The Sounders are 0-2 against the Thunder this season, losing both games on the road; all-time the Sounders are 5-6-1 against Minnesota.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - Defender David Gillett, a member of the original Sounders, will be honored prior to the 7pm kick off of the Seattle Sounders and Minnesota Thunder match on August 7th at Qwest Field. The Scottish native, known to Sounders fans as “Chopper,” played 8,912 minutes between 1974 and 1980.
Born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, Gillett began his professional soccer career at the age of 18 playing for Hibernian of the Scottish First Division.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo will surpass the 500 career save mark as early as Saturday, August 7th when the Sounders battle the Minnesota Thunder at Qwest Field. There are only five other goalkeepers in A-League history who have reached this milestone.
Burpo has played every minute in the net this season (2,091) and his 106 saves are second most in the league.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - Seattle Sounders defender Scott Jenkins played in his 200th career regular season match last night in Edmonton against Edmonton FC. Joining an elite group, Jenkins is the fourth player in A-League history to record 200 games with a single club. The eight year veteran is the Sounders all-time leader in games and minutes played.
A small group of players have reached the 200 game mark; only four players have ever played 200 games for one team.

(Seattle, Wash.) - - With 199 career games played, Seattle Sounders defender / midfielder Scott Jenkins will play his 200th career match tonight against Edmonton FC in Edmonton, or Saturday, August 7th at home against Minnesota. The eight-year veteran is the Sounder’s all-time leader in games and minutes played, logging over 15,000 minutes on the field.
A local talent, Jenkins was signed by the Sounders following his collegiate career at the University of Washington in 1997. Jenkins has helped the Sounders reach the playoffs in six of his seven seasons in Seattle.
