SOUNDERS SCORE IN DYING SECONDS TO TIE WAVE UNITED

(Seattle, Wash.) – Defender Scott Jenkins scored a dramatic goal in the dying seconds of second-half stoppage time to give the Seattle Sounders a 2-2 tie against the Milwaukee Wave United in a pulse-pounding match Sunday evening at Qwest Field. Despite playing most of the second half with a man disadvantage, Seattle erased a two-goal deficit to send the game into golden-goal overtime but couldn’t find the goal they needed to get the win.

The Sounders found themselves with an uphill battle very early in the game after Milwaukee took a shock 2-0 lead inside 12 minutes by scoring two goals in a five-minute span. In the seventh, Seattle goalkeeper Preston Burpo came out to punch away a Milwaukee corner kick but failed to connect. The ball went all the way through to the to the far post, where an unmarked Ibrahim Kante sent a low, left-footed drive into the empty net from eight yards out to give Milwaukee the 1-0 lead.

Redwine's Two Goals Lifts Sounders Women Past Mustangs In Season Finale

(Seattle, Wash) – The Seattle Sounders Women defeated the Mile High Mustangs on Sunday July 25, at Qwest Field. The Sounders Women controlled the game shutting out the Mustangs 4-0 in the last regular season game of 2004.

The Sounders first goal came in the 35th minute off a long chip from midfielder Michelle French to forward Tina Frimpong. French led Frimpong to the top corner of the 18 yard box where Frimpong beat out Mustang defender Kitty Montgomery. As goalkeeper Jessica Keller came out to challenge, Frimpong glided the ball in the back of the net.

Levesque, Burpo Power Sounders Past Timbers On The Road

(Portland, Ore.) - - Seattle forward Roger Levesque scored two goals as the Sounders shutout the Portland Timbers 2-0 in Portland. Levesque’s key goals in the 42nd and 80th minute helped the Sounders gain needed ground in the Western Conference playoff race. Sounders goalkeeper Preston Burpo made four impressive saves to preserve the shutout and earned an assist for his first point of the season. The win improves the Sounders record to 8-9-3, 27pts.

The Timbers took it to the Sounders from the opening whistle and had a handful of scoring opportunities. Former Sounder midfielder now Timber, Andrew Gregor sent a free kick in to forward Alan Gordon in the 8th minute. Gordon, who leads the league in scoring and points, headed the ball out of play over the crossbar.

TWO GAMES IN TWO DAYS, THE SOUNDERS CHALLENGE THE TIMBERS AWAY AND RETURN HOME TO TAKE ON MILWAUKEE

(Seattle, Wash)—After a heart wrenching 4-3 loss to the Portland Timbers on Saturday July 17th, the Seattle Sounders look to avenge that defeat when they travel to Portland this weekend.

Sitting tight at fourth place in the Western Conference, the Sounders play Portland (11-6-0, 33 pts) at PGE Stadium Saturday July 24th at 7 PM.

As the Sounders (7-9-3, 24 pts) fight to gain ground in the standings, Portland looks to diminish the Sounders playoff hopes.

On July 17th the Timbers came to Seattle with Sounders defender Marco Velez scoring his first two goals of the season in the 31st and 61st minutes, respectively.

With Playoffs On The Horizon, Sounders Women Battle Mustangs In Season Finale

(Seattle, WA) - The Seattle Sounders Women play the Mile High Mustangs on July 25th in preparation for their first round playoff game against The Vancouver Whitecaps Women on July 31st.

The Seattle Sounders play Sunday July 25th at Qwest field against the Mile High Mustangs (3-5-3, 12 pts). In a previous meeting on June 16th in Arvada, Colorado, the Sounders Women beat the Mustangs 6-0.

Sounders Women Miyake Earns Team of the Week for Week #14

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The W-League released Team of the Week selections for Week # 14 late Tuesday. Seattle Sounders Women defender Katie Miyake earned her first Team of the Week nod of the season for her solid defensive play in a 3-0 shutout of the Fort Collins Force on July 17th.

“Katie has been a steady player for us the past two seasons,” said Sounders Women head coach Dick McCormick. “Her play is consistent and aggressive. Quietly, she has done a great job of spoiling opposing offenses.”

Sounders Tame Brazilian Star and Bellevue All-Stars In Exhibition Game

(Seattle, Wash.) - - On a warm Sunday afternoon the Seattle Sounders defeated the Bellevue Hispanic League All-Stars featuring former Brazilian national team star Bebeto 5-2 at Qwest Field. Five first half goals by the Sounders was too big a task for the Bellevue All-Stars to overcome. Bebeto, in a guest appearance, had only a dozen touches in the match and scored a goal on a penalty kick early in the first half.

The Sounders controlled the ball nearly the entire game forcing the Bellevue All-Stars to scramble back on defense.

SOUNDERS FALL TO TIMBERS 4-3 IN WILD CONTEST

(Seattle, Wash.) – The Seattle Sounders lost a heartbreaker Saturday night at Qwest Field when Hugo Alcaraz-Cuellar scored in stoppage time of the second overtime to give the Portland Timbers a stunning 4-3 win. Sounders defender Marco Velez scored his first two goals of the season in a thrilling game.

The Sounders got off to a strong start, having two goals by forward Roger Levesque disallowed in the first 20 minutes. In the 11th, forward Kyle Smith played Levesque through into the penalty area. Levesque coolly slotted the ball past Timbers goalkeeper Josh Saunders but was ruled offside in a questionable decision by the linesman.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS WOMEN SHUT OUT THE FORT COLLINS FORCE

(Seattle, WA)—The Seattle Sounders Women defeat the Fort Collins Force in a challenging duel at Qwest Field on July 17, 2004. Back to back goals came late in the first half from forward Tina Frimpong and Midfielder Nikki Gamble. Midfielder Kelley Schweighart sealed the 3-0 shut out.

Forward Brenda Mueller came out strong offensively, creating multiple shot opportunities. She had a quick goal in the third minute of play but it was called back due to an offside call. Mueller, continued her game with five shots and one assist.

Sounders Honor Franchise Legend on July 17th Prior To Portland Match

(Seattle, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders honor former midfielder Peter Hattrup on July 17th, prior to the Sounders / Portland Timbers match at Qwest Field. Recognized as part of Sounders Legend Nights this summer, Hattrup scored 23 goals and notched 12 assists in his Sounders career.

Hattrup joined the resurrected Sounders in 1994. In 1995, Hattrup led the A-League in goals, assists and points as the Sounders won their first A-League Championship. Hattrup was also named to the 1995 All-Star Team and was selected as the A-League MVP.
