The 2005 USL First Division Champion Seattle Sounders face Major League Soccer side Chivas USA and former Sounders Preston Burpo and Brent Whitfield this Sunday, May 7th at Qwest Field. Burpo and Whitfield played vital roles in the Sounders 2005 championship run, and both have signed with Chivas USA for the 2006 season.

(Chicago, Ill.) - - The U.S. National Team coach selected 23 players to represent the United States in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, it was announced today. Two of the players on the U.S. team’s roster are former Sounders, Forward Brian Ching and Goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann while Lacy, Wash. native, Kasey Keller was selected as the U.S.’s starting goalkeeper.

(Kent, Wash.) - - The Seattle Sounders shutout the Seattle University Redhawks 2-0 at French Field in Kent, Wash. on two early goals by Sounder Forward Cam Weaver. Tonight’s match was the second time in two days the Sounders faced the Redhawks in exhibition play. The Sounders defense looked sharp holding S.U. to under 10 shots throughout the match.

(Bothell, Wash.) - - On a soggy evening at Bothell’s Pop Keeney Stadium the Seattle Sounders fought their way back from a late 1-0 deficit to capture a 2-1 victory over Seattle University. Late game substitutes Roger Levesque and Jamal Sutton provided the scoring power for the Sounders as they scored two goals in the match’s final 15 minutes.

The Seattle Sounders filled out their 2006 USL First Division roster with the re-signing of Defender Jake Besagno and the signing of four college standouts, it was announced today. Defender Seyi Abolaji (Stanford), Goalkeeper Chris Eylander (Washington), and Seattle University Midfielders Cameron Weaver and Santa Maria Rivera join Besagno to complete Head Coach Brian Schmetzer’s 2006 squad.
