SOUNDERS FACE BIG WEEKEND WITH PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS

The Seattle Sounders finish the 2006 regular season with two weekend games that will determine their playoff chances. Currently in a two way tie for the sixth and final playoff position with the Puerto Rico Islanders, the Sounders travel to Vancouver to face the Whitecaps on Friday and host the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, September 9th at Qwest Field. The Sounders will play in Vancouver without three of the club’s leading goal scorers due to league suspensions for yellow card accumulation.
Emerald City Supporters To Present Cascadia Cup Saturday

The Emerald City Supporters will present Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer with the 3rd Annual Cascadia Cup on September 9th. The Sounders captured the cup with a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on August 19th. The Cascadia Cup is a head-to-head competition between the Sounders, Whitecaps and Portland Timbers. The Whitecaps have won the two previous awards.
Sounders Fall To Battery 2-1 In 89th Minute, End Winning Streak

The Charleston Battery broke the Seattle Sounders three game winning streak with a game winner in the 89th minute for a 2-1 decision at Qwest Field on Friday night. The Battery jumped on the board in the 54th minute on a goal from Ben Hollingsworth. The Sounders notched the equalizer in the 76th on Maykel Galindo’s third goal of the season. The loss snapped a 297 minute shutout streak.
SOUNDERS PREP FOR CHARLESTON, LOOK TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK

The Seattle Sounders face the visiting Charleston Battery on Friday, September 1st at Qwest Field in a match filled with playoff implications. The Sounders currently hold the sixth and final playoff spot with three teams on their heels while Charleston looks to improve their playoff seeding heading down the stretch. On a three game winning streak, the Sounders have played 243 consecutive minutes of shut out soccer.

Jackson & Eylander Selected To USL Team of the Week

Seattle Sounders Defender Danny Jackson and Goalkeeper Chris Eylander were selected by the United Soccer Leagues to the Team of the Week for Week 19 for their performances in the Sounders’ 1-0 shutout win over the Minnesota Thunder on August 25th at Qwest Field.

The Seattle Sounders battled the visiting Minnesota Thunder to a 1-0 victory at Qwest Field Friday night. The Sounders dominated the first half of play and took a one goal lead on an Andrew Gregor free kick in the 9th minute. The Sounders fought off several attacks by the Thunder in the second half but held on to their 1-0 lead for their third straight victory and ended Minnesota’s four game winning streak. The win moves the Sounders into fifth place in the USL First Division.

The Seattle Sounders face a red-hot Minnesota Thunder squad on their quest for the post season Friday, August 25th at Qwest Field. The Sounders are looking for an undefeated August to remain in the playoff hunt while Minnesota has assembled a four-game winning streak of their own. The Sounders and their mid-west rivals kick off at 7pm.
